Melbourne Cup.

We couldn't believe the attention and hype that this event received....and even more amazing was the fact that it was a race that was occurring on a Tuesday afternoon, straight after school! There was no way I would have made it home in time, so I figured I was doomed to miss the big race. Chris was involved in a sweepstake, with drinks and nibbles at school and he thought that this was at last something which he would get to do and I miss out! This was not the case, however, because my friend, Rosemary, had been busy arranging . She declared that I couldn't possibly miss the Melbourne cup and she would organise things.....I was expecting an invite around her house to watch the race on the TV as soon as we had collected the kids, but she had other bigger ideas!
She arranged for her husband to collect all the children, while we went to a rather nice charity lunch....requiring my posh dress and even a hat competition! Mc Donald's House sounded like a strange link with nice food and good company, but to give it credit...it does a great deal for "chariteeee", and luckily the event wasn't at Mc Donalds!

We soon got into the spirit....literally, enjoying wine tasting and then a bottle of 'Pink'....very pink... bubbly and giggly! The afternoon was filled with Yes/No games, a Melbourne cup quiz (yes, of course I was crap at that...like with any other quiz!) The company, buffet and sweet were great though! Infact the only real disappointment was the race!

Chris& I wanted to go for Frankie Dettori's horse, living in Newcastle and he rides a horse called Geordieland, surely fate was on our side and the other bets were just lucky dips for the kids. We waited with excitment...but when the race eventually came on, the TV's were so small and the coverage wasn't great.....so I never got that 'Grand National' feeling. The race was over before I knew it .....I don't think I even had a chance to comment that I couldn't see very well so should I stand closer.?....Our horses didn't come anywhere.... 2 horses from Japan won!
