Ice Creams consumed, as if we needed them when it was only 12 degrees. Pete then took us up the summit Rd. Innocent, collective Chappell excitement abounded upon seeing the Gondola. The fact that Pete has spent well over 12 months here and not got around to doing it probably reflects his enthusiasm for such a venture but like a reluctant, caring father thing he agreed and followed us into the back entrance. Just the walk and views over Lyttleton made it worthwhile.

What made it really worth it though is that if you get on at the top, the assumption is you got on at the bottom and have paid already. Meanwhile down the bottom, nobody is manning it so they assume you are getting off, you stay on and get back off at the top instead (walking nonchalantly with head down). We do like a bargain.
